Day 737: Paddy and the Polar Vortex

We are so fortunate that we have a secure home, a roaring fire and ample food tonight.  It's minus two and the wind chill is somewhere near thirty below.  I fear for those who are homeless or without heat due to misfortune and for animals left unsheltered.  I hope we don't hear of deaths due to freezing tomorrow, but I suspect we will.  The thruway is closed and cleared so no one gets stuck along the highway.

I spent the day working on the classes chapter, particularly the class on expedition behavior.  I added a portion I had written on group dynamics.  My plan was to cut pages, but now it's up to thirty pages.  I need a few fresh voices for the ladies' meeting so I'll have to do a few more interviews.

Paddy curled up beside me while I worked at my computer, watching the crazy squirrel swinging about on the bird feeder.  He was totally unsatisfied with the inside life today.  Back and forth he paced from door to door and then to a window.  He's a brave cat, but we were not going to take any chances.

Steve has his fire gear piled up next to the door in case of an emergency, but I pray he won't have to go out.  There was an accident near Westfield on the thruway before it closed.  A tank truck's brakes were on fire.  How terrible for firemen and other emergency workers all over the country to bear the severe cold and wind.

My sister made it home to Louisville safely at 6:30.  What a harrowing trip!
