Day 652: Captain Phillips

A cool, wet front blew through over night and ushered in the real October.  We decided to go to the movies and see Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks.  It's the mostly true story of a commercial container ship that is boarded by Somali pirates.  The crew catches their captain and negotiates a deal for the pirates to escape in a lifeboat with $30,000.  But at the last moment, they take the ship's captain hostage in a small lifeboat that looks like a submarine.  It is a suspenseful and moving story.  The juxtaposition of American naval power against the tiny Somali skiffs was disturbing.  Tom Hanks delivered a terrific performance, but even more powerful was the actor playing the Somali captain named Muse.
