Day 886: Black iris

The vegetable garden is now tilled and planted with tomatoes, peppers, brussel sprouts and zucchini.  Since our squash has failed entirely for the past few years,  I planted the summer squash, cucumbers and two zucchini plants in pots with tomato cages.  After I finished potting all the squash, I stopped for a drink of water.  When I returned, some critter had already dug up one of the pots and destroyed the plants.  Was it the raccoon that is raiding our bird feeders?  Or perhaps the squirrels who bury nuts in my flower pots?  Or maybe the chippy?
