For those of you who may be tired of photos of lilies, you will have to view them for another month. You see, since I retired, my year is divided into six seasons, all filled with things and people I love. This is gardening and swimming season. When I was teaching, the children consumed every bit of energy I had and I loved them so much, so there were only two seasons. In school and out.
Now they occupy a smaller part of my life, but a big part of my heart. Musical season and backpacking season are high points of our year, but now I have more balance. January to April is musical season, Quest is October to July, Gardening is April to August, Swimming is May to September, family travel time is September to December and writing season runs January to March and Sept to November.
When our Democratic committee men came by for our signatures and suggested again that we should run for public office, I thought, not sure what I'd be willing to sacrifice. Steve has done his share and for me, it's very tempting, but serving would be one of those all consuming experiences like teaching. It would crowd out everything else.
