For Mary's 60th birthday, she said all she wanted to do was go to a new restaurant in Buffalo, perhaps something exotic on Elmwood. Well, we would do anything for her and thought it would be fun for our niece Lisa, too. They decided to head up early to do some errands and pick up her changed train tickets for her trip next week. Mary made a reservation at a Burmese restaurant called The Sun in the Black Rock neighborhood. Several of her friends had highly recommended it and when I looked up the reviews, it was highly rated. We adore Thai food and were eager to try Burmese.
When we arrived at the restaurant, Lisa's car was already in the parking lot. We walked in and quickly saw Lisa, Alexandra and Mary seated at a corner table. Rounding the partition, I was stopped in my tracks! Evan! I grabbed him and held on, then finally released him to his father. He and Mary had worked up this scheme to surprise us a couple weeks ago. They succeeded! I was stunned! They had just come from the train station and were hoping to make it a complete surprise. He's here till Saturday! Wow, we get to see all four kids within a month!
And by the way, the food was fabulous! We had two black rice dishes, a salad and a dessert that were amazing. I had never heard of black rice. Alexandra was very adventurous for a five year old and tried everything.
For her birthday, Mary and Evan arranged a beautiful reunion for our family. What a generous and loving gift.
