Day 463: First day in the garden

In just twenty days,  Quest will be underway!  The mild temperature and sunny sky today gave us hope that we'll have warmth and perhaps a few leaves to shield us in the woods.

It doesn't look like much, but this strip of land next to the creek at Fredonia Place on Howard Street is an important staging area for Quest.

It was a delight to spend four hours working in the backyard gardens.  Since we will be on the garden tour on June 29, we have lots to do to be ready for hundreds of guests.  I cut the ornamental grasses down and then Steve dug up the largest of them to make room for the iris and lilies.  It was so heavy that he used the ax to chop it into manageable segments for transplanting along the property line.  We picked up hundreds of branches and raked for hours.  Although it was tiring, gardening makes me very happy.
