For our last full day in New Mexico, we took the scenic route north to Taos and visited the Taos Pueblo and the bridge over the Rio Grande. Taos was too touristy for us. Very quickly we tired of it and decided to take leave early. The Rio Grande is just a small creek now, but long ago it was a huge river that cut an 800 foot deep gorge through the state. The land around it is completely flat and then suddenly, a rift valley appears. We followed the river as it flowed south along route 68. So much water has been diverted, that it isn't much deeper than Canadaway Creek.

Home tomorrow after a lovely, relaxing and energizing vacation; back to 28 degrees and lots of demands for the next two months.
