Day 259: Staten Island Ferry

Despite many trips to NY, we've never seen the NYC skyline from the Staten Island Ferry.  The journey across the Verrazano Narrows to Staten Island is incredibly beautiful and it provides the ideal vantage point to view the tip of Manhattan, including the Freedom Tower, and the Statue of Liberty.  Plus, it's free!  We had an armed Coast Guard escort for the trip across and we were speculating about the nature of the threat, but then the two patrols boats broke away and continued farther along.

Afterward, we had dinner at the Great Jones Cafe, a Cajun restaurant where Colin and April often had lunch.  It's across the street from Future Perfect where Kiel's furniture and jewelry are sold and some of Colin's work is on display.  Unfortunately, the shop was just closing as we arrived so we didn't get to see the installation.   It's a very trendy neighborhood with lots of great restaurants, shops and artistic design businesses.  Spending the day with our sons was wonderful.
