Day 979: IFLY767

Day 84: Best (weather) day of the summer
Air temp: 86
Water temp: 72
Lengths: 430!  (2.2 miles and a new personal best!)
Total miles: 89.2

It was a spectacular day.  Hot, breezy, peaceful, and no lawnmowers.  Our warm front will soon be hit by a cool front and we expect ferocious thunder and lightning.  It was my last chance to swim for the entire day and I did.

Over the Labor Day weekend, my sister Nancy presented each of us with an extraordinary gift.  A daylily called IFLY767, hybridized and named after her beloved husband, Glenn.  He spent thirty years as a pilot, the last ten or so as the captain of a 767.  She contacted a friend of hers, a hybridizer, who had created a new daylily and Nancy had it named for Glenn.  Nancy thought long and hard about what she might call the lily,  considered all the things he loved to do and chose his plane.  It's the same acronym that he had on his license plate.

She bought all the scapes of the beautiful deep purple lily with a white ruffle and presented them to her son and daughter, his sister Donna, three of his friends, our brother Steve, Laurie and me.  We are the only ones who possess them.  Even the hybridizer did not keep a plant.  So, she gave us a truly unique and rare plant in honor of her unique husband.
