Day 975: The night before school begins!

Day 80:
Air temp: 85
Water temp: 71
Lengths: 260
Total miles: 82.4

There's not much that's more exciting than the first day of school.  All over town, kids and teachers are lying awake, anticipating a new beginning! Clocks are set, backpacks packed with supplies, clothes laid out, lunches ready.

It didn't matter how many years I taught, I never slept the night before.  Through the night, I constantly rehearsed what I would say, how I would greet my new students, how the lesson would proceed.  I never got bored all those 39 years because there was such variety.  Meeting and getting to know new students, learning new content, monitoring the news, designing new projects, always working to improve my instruction... it was invigorating and thrilling!  Others might not think that teaching is an exciting profession, but I loved every moment.  I wish nothing but the best for all the children and teachers starting fresh this week.

It was a long trip home, but the traffic was easy.  Steve drove the whole way.   He's such a good man. I unpacked, mowed the lawn, swam 1.3 miles, watered the pots, cooked dinner, talked with Evan.  A great day!
