My dear friend Laraine arrived today with a huge bouquet of gladiolas as a gift for our anniversary. It is always a bittersweet celebration, but she wishes us nothing but the best. We were married just two weeks apart in 1971. She and Mike were married on August 7 and I stood up for her. Then Mike returned to active duty since he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Two weeks later, she was by my side. We've been through everything together for more than fifty years. The worst time, of course, was when Mike was killed by a drunk driver in April, 2000. There have been many dark, sad days since then, but she is grateful that she had a loving, devoted husband for 29 years. And I am incredibly grateful to have her in my life.
So, Steve is off on another night time rescue. He got a report that two girls are lost near Arkwright Falls. We know that gorge and it's dangerous at night. They have GPS coordinates so maybe it won't take all night to find this group.
