Day 1676: Olympic fans

So, we're tucked in watching Olympic events as we will be for the next three weeks.  The first gold medal of the entire games went to a nineteen year old American girl in an air rifle event that we didn't even know existed.  Jake Kaminski, a young man from western NY, earned a silver medal today in team archery.

We love swimming and track best.  Some of the swimmers are novices, only 16 or 17, while others, like Ledecky and Phelps, are veterans.  I admire them tremendously for their endurance, perseverance and self-discipline.  It's hard enough for me to swim sixty to ninety minutes a day for a few months, but they practice hours every day for years!  The IM is especially intense and demanding.

Jenn Suhr will be departing for Rio on Monday.  Last night she held a news conference in Buffalo during a farewell party.  She announced that she is NOT retiring and is looking forward to the 2020 games!  Apparently her husband hadn't gotten the message before he made the retirement announcement on Facebook.
