Day 1675: Olympic Games Open

Five-time Olympian Michael Phelps led the way as the US team entered the Olympic Stadium.  A huge team of over 500 athletes, they were beaming as they took their places among the world's best.  Our favorite, of course, is Fredonia native Jenn Suhr, who is pole vaulting in her third Olympic games.  In 2008, she won silver.  In 2012, she won gold.  What will it be in 2016?  After these games, she will retire with a stellar record.

Evan, our family's premier athlete, will depart on Sunday for the IGLA games in Edmonton.  It's very hard to swim when you have a cold, but that's how he will begin his events.  Hopefully, he'll be healthy by Wednesday when his first events, the 100 fly and 200 free, are held.  In the last year, he has swum 330, 607 yards.  That's 188 miles.  Wow!

My summer swim total is pale by comparison, but I am just a few years older and I only swim in the summer.  My pace resembles a stroll rather than a race.   Nevertheless, today, I reached 12,000 lengths or 108,000 yards or 61.3 miles.

I felt so smug and self-satisfied yesterday when the downloads went smoothly that I should have known something would go wrong.  When I  tried to move movie clips into the video, I found that the entire tape was telescoped into one long unit.  Apparently there was a software change over the last year.  Now, I will have to delete the downloads and do it over again manually stopping after each scene so I have manageable clips to work with.  It's a good thing I started early.
