Day 1540: LA Zoo

Another night of fighting, screaming, sirens, helicopters, car alarms and cars crying in the night.  Colin and April don't even hear the noise, but we lie awake listening, troubled.

They decided to take us to the Zoo today, so we plunged into LA traffic, toured Echo Park on the way and arrived around 2:00.   It's vacation time here, too, so the park was mobbed with families.  It was a beautiful multiethnic mix of people.  Watching the children is the best part because they are so delighted  by the animals.  The kangaroos drew a crowd because they decided to mate and it took a long time.  We could hear parents trying to explain to their toddlers what was happening.

Dinner was at a Vietnamese restaurant in Echo Park.  That's a neighborhood they considered before selecting the downtown apartment because of its proximity to work.  We did not have to watch every step there.  Banh Mi sandwiches for me and Colin, while Steve and April chose noodle dishes.  We topped it off with vegan ice cream.  Delicious!
