Day 1007: First recruiting for Quest 2015!

The presentation could not have gone better!  When we arrived at Brocton MS, our student leaders Maddy, Molly and Denali greeted us with hugs and smiles. Their excitement and enthusiasm are invigorating and they remind us again why it's so important to continue.   John and Jason, the superintendent and principal of BCS, also greeted us warmly.   They are so grateful that we continue to offer this program to their students.   Jason set up the computer and screen for the video and delivered a warm and generous introduction.

Mrs. Skinner was helpful as always and the aide we love, who had Steve's mom as a teacher, wrapped her arms around us before and after the meeting.  Even though we were warned that the students could be "squirrelly", the kids were very respectful, curious and polite.  One girl asked about going potty in the woods and another asked how they would charge their phones.  Molly, Denali and Maddy spoke about their experiences and how they grew as individuals.  They stressed the new friendships they forged and the fun they had.   All the girls said not to let going to the bathroom in the woods stop them from joining Quest.  It's such a small and insignificant thing, they shouldn't think of it as an obstacle.

Then to top it off, a young social studies teacher gave us her email address and told us she would like to sponsor a student.  Just email her with the amount and date, and she will send us a check!  Wow!  We asked her if she might be interested in going with us and she said she'd think about it.  She's new to the district and has never done anything like Quest.  We can teach her!

We showed a portion of the 2013 video which is my absolute favorite.  The smiles, music and sheer joy of Quest always move me.   The student leaders are going to arrange a showing of the 2014 video once it is completed to help with the recruiting process.

Today, I actually finished editing all the video clips.  It runs 32 minutes because I included a lot of the talent show.  Since we did not hike on Thursday, there are no scenes of pancake flipping, creek walking or bushwhacking.  The next job is to work on inserting still photos and transitions.  Once that part is done, I can start on the music.  That's the most difficult part of the process besides transferring the files to the upstairs computer where we actually render the video and burn the disks.
