Day 705: Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela died today at the age of 95.  Finally he is at peace.  I remember when he was first released from prison and walked away from prison joyously with his wife Winnie.  And I remember the long twisting lines of voters when the first open election was held and he was elected president of South Africa.  He faced every challenge with remarkable courage and grace.  What an inspiration for the entire world community.

As I continue to clean out my digital photo files, I discover memorable events and places we have visited.

The day before Colin's departure for the army in April, 2003. He was so young and I was so afraid of what could happen.  The Iraq war had just begun and we were terrified he would be sent to the front lines.  Somehow, a miracle happened and he was sent to Korea instead.
