Day 1281: Happy Independence Day!

An 80 degree pool invites me to swim
250 lengths
28.3 miles
While Molly naps under the weigela

Mama turkey clucks
and six babies
Hide in the hostas
Squirrels chase and bounce
from roof to trees

Fifty-three lilies with exotic names
and colorful faces
bloom in my gardens
Chautauqua Papaya
Asian Occasion
Texas Toffee
Dune Dark Eyes
Lunar Max

Two doting aunts and
Uncle Grandpa Steve
Struggle to entertain the young lady
Who dances, swinging her casted arm
Too close to the tv.

Homemade cherry pie
Deviled eggs and cucumbers
Sliced roast beef and veggies
Macaroni salad with pickles and
Alexandra's favorite, baked beans

Thousands gather for fireworks
Strutting teens, held captive by phones
Suck on glowing neon pacifiers
Alexandra licks taffy,
Mary crunches a candied apple
Ooooh,  aaahhhh
Sing, clap, cheer!

Justin watches fireworks from the top
of a Manhattan building with Kaoru
Evan watches lightning crisscross the sky
over Schroon with dear friends
Colin and April revel in music and
friends at Blue Heron.

The blessings of living in the US,
We choose how to spend our day
Relax and enjoy family and friends
Honor traditions
Give thanks for peace
